Business of tech | small businesses see ai as key to growth

A survey by the US Chamber of Commerce reveals that 98% of small businesses use AI tools, with 40% utilizing generative AI, a significant increase from 23% last year. The findings indicate that technology use correlates with business growth, as companies employing various tech platforms report higher sales, profits, and workforce increases. Small businesses leveraging AI are optimistic about future growth, viewing it as a means to compete effectively despite limited resources.

Meanwhile, a survey reveals that 1 in 3 workers want AI banned in the workplace, with 50% concerned about job security. While 63% acknowledge AI’s impact on job skills, 67% view it positively as a tool to eliminate repetitive tasks. However, disparities exist in AI usage and benefits among different demographics. Many workers call for clearer AI policies, and only 25% have received AI training, highlighting a need for improved technology training and investment in skills development.

Why do we care?

The narrative is clear: AI is a double-edged sword—while it drives business success, it simultaneously stirs anxiety among the workforce. Addressing these concerns with targeted training and inclusive AI strategies will be critical in harnessing AI’s full potential.  That’s the current high-value advisory work with clients.    While the optimism among small businesses is encouraging, IT service providers need to approach AI implementations with a healthy level of skepticism to avoid over-promising outcomes. Ensuring realistic expectations and focusing on incremental gains rather than sweeping changes can help maintain client trust.
