Business of Tech | Canva Study Highlights Creativity as Key to Future Success: AI’s Role in Shaping Education

I had a couple of education-related ones, too.

A study by Canva highlights the importance of creativity in education, emphasizing that it is crucial for career success as AI automates routine tasks. While 80% of recent graduates credit their success to creativity, there is a gap in educational preparedness, with many educators citing a lack of resources and time to foster creative skills. The report suggests that teaching methods like project-based learning can enhance creativity, and 85% of hiring managers believe AI’s rise will promote creative thinking, indicating a need for educational institutions to prioritize creativity alongside technical skills.

The UK government plans to invest £4 million in AI tools to assist teachers with lesson planning and homework marking, utilizing government documents for content generation. While the initiative aims to alleviate teacher workload, educational organizations have raised concerns about AI’s limitations and ethical implications. The project is still in early stages, with assurances that pupil data will be anonymized and participation will be opt-in.

Why do we care?

As AI increasingly automates routine tasks, creativity becomes a differentiator in the workforce.  Both the Canva study and the UK’s AI initiative emphasize that AI should be used to enhance human creativity and teaching capabilities, not replace them. This reflects a broader trend across industries: AI is most effective when it complements human skills—whether it’s creative problem-solving for students or easing administrative burdens for teachers. IT providers can play a crucial role in advising educational institutions on how to strike the right balance, ensuring that AI tools enhance both learning outcomes and teaching effectiveness.
