Business of tech | tech leaders stressed by talent

We’ll start right from CIO Dive:

Enterprise technology leaders are stressed by the weight of their company’s biggest challenges: talent constraints, security, and keeping up with technology advancements, according to a report by The Work Innovation Lab, an Asana think tank in partnership with Firstbase and Sierra Ventures.

Three in 10 senior IT executives say keeping up with advances in technology, such as AI, is a major challenge. More than one-quarter of IT leaders are stressed daily about ensuring their data and systems are secure, according to the survey of 500 IT professionals.

IT leaders are also concerned about tech spend. Nearly half said they wrestled at least weekly in the last six months with prioritizing technology investments and streamlining their tech stack, according to the report published Monday. Two in 5 IT pros said they felt stressed at least weekly about reducing IT spend.

An SMB Group survey from July 2022 shows that there’s a line for the value of technology within the SMB – 20 or more Employees.   Their research shows that companies above that line are much more likely to view new technologies as important. Reviewing the data shows it’s not about the specific technologies, of which all those polled scored relatively similarly, but instead about the organization’s size.

Why do we care?

I combined these because of the story it tells.     At the largest organizations, tech leaders know how much they must do and keep up with.   They don’t even know what they are missing out on at the smallest end of the spectrum.     There’s a role here for providers of all sizes.    Large organizations will need to address those significant challenges, and small organizations do too … with the addition of a basic understanding of what’s possible.    Will all small organizations do this? No – but there are enough of them to find the good ones.
