I’ve been harsh on NFTs – but here’s a use case to consider. Textbooks. Pearson Publishing, makers of textbooks, is exploring NFTs and the blockchain to allow the company to be involved in the aftermarket sale of used textbooks.
From the earnings call. “In the analog world, a Pearson textbook was resold up to seven times, and we would only participate in the first sale. The move to digital helps diminish the secondary market. Technology like blockchain and NFTs allows us to participate in every sale of that particular item as it goes through its life.”
I’m not sure this one will fly – the utility of the use case is for the publisher, not the consumer, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. It’s at least a use case to consider, so I include it to ponder a bit more.
