The Business of Tech’s 2021 Q4 Diversity Report.
Tracking 301 Companies resulting in 3014 individuals. 86.18% White, 11.44% non-white, and 1.39% Black. 80.32% Male, and 19.52% Female.
Since June of this year, that’s a percent more white and half a percent less Black. It’s about half a percent more female.
Looking back a year, the figures are about 2% MORE white in the tracking data, and the industry appears a percent more female since that December 2020 report.
Let’s couple this with some research from Thoughtworks. Thoughtworks found that of the 300,000 IT specialists from ethnic minorities in the UK in 2020, only 37% were in “positions of responsibility,” compared with 41% of their white counterparts. IT workers from ethnic minorities were also twice as likely to be in non-permanent positions than white IT workers.
Why do we care?
Couple this podcast’s research with that Thoughtworks data – and in your own business, find ways to diversify leadership. Go back into the bonus episode from the weekend with Jennifer Brown to get some actionable steps. And focus on doing it because it will drive business.
